    The shank is a square shape measuring 20 mm wide by 20 mm high. This determines the size of the slot needed on your CNC lathe's tool turret to clamp the tool securely. The tool holder is precision-machined to accept a 3 mm wide insert (such as an MGMN 300). The resulting slot or part-off cut on your metal workpiece will be exactly 3 mm wide. This is the maximum distance the tool can plunge into a part before the main body of the tool holder hits the workpiece. It means you can cut a groove up to 20 mm deep, or part-off solid round bar stock up to 40 mm in total diameter.

    Definition: A tool holder with a standard compact length, typically around 100 mm to 125 mm long overall.

    Purpose: Best for standard CNC lathe turrets where space is tight. It minimizes tool overhang, providing maximum rigidity and reducing vibration (chatter) during the cut.

    Definition: A tool holder with an elongated shank, typically 150 mm or longer overall.

    Purpose: Used when the tool needs to extend further past the turret to reach deep parts without the machine turret colliding with the chuck or workpiece.
